Following up on my October 31 message regarding our progress in creating a more inclusive and welcoming environment within the Shone Farm site and Agriculture & Natural Resources community, I am pleased to share an overview of the Shone Farm Site District Response Plan (Plan). A more detailed plan, including all action items, was shared with the Shone Farm site and the Agriculture & Natural Resources community yesterday.
Creating an inclusive environment requires a deep commitment to change and a willingness to embrace challenges. This Plan represents the voices and insights shared by the community, and it will take all of us working together to bring these outcomes to life. The Plan serves as a blueprint for meaningful change, and I’m confident that by working collaboratively, we can bring it to fruition.
The Plan is structured around seven themes, each of which serves as a foundation for more than 30 action items addressing immediate needs while also supporting long-term growth. Some action items are already underway, and the work will continue through Fall 2025. The seven themes are:
- Student Support Needs
- Employee Onboarding and Engagement
- Academic Programs and Farm Operations
- Site Alignment and Goals
- Fiscal Management
- Community Building
- District Operations Integration
To measure the success of our initiatives, we will collect feedback from the Shone Farm site and Agriculture & Natural Resources community and provide updates on our progress. I am grateful for your commitment and contributions to this effort, especially to colleagues in the Agriculture & Natural Resources and Shone Farm departments. As we move forward together, I look forward to cultivating a supportive, welcoming environment for everyone.
