Supplemental Employee Retirement Plan (SERP) 2026

September 9, 2026
Dear SRJC Community,

Over the past several years, we have been following a path to fiscal sustainability at SRJC. As part of that work, we have been reviewing our enrollment trends, financial outlook, and organizational structure, with input from employees across the college. That work has made clear that we need to become a smaller, more focused institution while continuing to prioritize the programs, services, and student experiences that matter most.

Today, I am sharing information about a Supplemental Employee Retirement Plan (SERP) that provides an opportunity for eligible employees who are ready to retire to do so with an enhanced retirement benefit.

The Board of Trustees approved the plan at the September 8, 2026, meeting for eligible contract faculty, classified professionals, and management employees. Eligible employees must be at least 55 years old and have a minimum of five full-time-equivalent years of service with the District by their retirement date. The plan provides an annuity equal to 60% of the employee’s base annual salary, with several payment options.

The plan was developed in consultation with Keenan & Associates and representatives of our faculty, classified professional, and management employee groups. I appreciate the thoughtful work that went into developing it.

I encourage eligible employees who are considering the plan to review the attached information and timeline carefully. Eligible employees must submit their letters to Human Resources by November 9, 2026.

I want to emphasize that participation is entirely voluntary, and I recognize that retirement is a personal decision. For those who may be considering retirement, I hope you know how deeply we value the years of service and care you have given to SRJC students and our community. Whatever decision you make, your contributions have helped shape this college and the lives of countless students, and we are grateful.

Once we know the level of participation, we will have a clear understanding of whether the SERP will move forward by November 30, 2026. If it does, we will continue to look carefully at how we can streamline our operations, align our staffing with our resources, and ensure that the work of those who remain is sustainable.

My commitment is to approach the SERP with transparency, care, and respect for our employees while keeping students and the long-term health of SRJC at the center of our decisions.

Thank you for all that you do for our students and for one another.
