Dear Colleagues,
At today’s College Forum, I announced a call for participation in a District wide IDEAA Taskforce in response to College Council’s recommendation to create this advisory group at their March 7th and April 4th meetings.
The IDEAA Taskforce is a District advisory group engaging on a year-long exploration of the District’s commitment to IDEAA, models for District-wide engagement, and centering the experiences of students to cultivate a community of belonging that is just, equitable, in queer solidarity, and centers racial justice. The taskforce will further develop its focus, but will begin with:
- Grounding all work in students’ experiences, disaggregated data for success outcomes, completion rates, and student engagement.
- Establishing a working guide for IDEAA in action and definition.
- Advising on the review and communication of campus climate assessments, including possible recommendations to cultivate a community of belonging, safe spaces, and collaborations to build an IDEAA college community.
- Providing a repository of IDEAA activities and programs throughout the District for students and employees.
- Supporting the Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) Plan.
- Providing a recommendation on the type of District group that could continue the work as part of participatory governance.
- Communicating its progress to College Council and contributing towards District wide communication.
In addition to one member appointed from each of the SRJC constituency groups, including Academic Senate, Classified Senate, AFA, SEIU, Student Government Assembly, and administrators, I am opening the call for participation to ensure representation in the following areas that surfaced as key areas for engagement and collaboration:
- Cultural Centers
- Council for Racial Equity & Justice
- Hispanic Serving Institute (HSI) Initiatives/Programs
- Mental Health Counselor
- B-CARE
- District Police
- SRJC Roseland
- Athletics
- Disability Resources Department
Membership may be further refined as the Taskforce is underway. Membership can be composed of students, classified professionals, faculty, associate faculty, administrators, student workers, and STNCs.
Resource support for the Taskforce will be provided by the Offices of Human Resources (EEO), Marketing & Communications, Institutional Effectiveness, Research, and Planning as well as our Vice Presidents. The timeline for this Taskforce’s work is May 2024 through May 2025.
If you are interested in participating on the Taskforce for one of the identified areas, you are invited to submit an interest form by Friday, April 19th at 12:00pm.
