July 25, 2018, Santa Rosa, CA - Santa Rosa Junior College (SRJC) President Dr. Frank Chong will swear-in new Chief of Police, Robert Brownlee, on Thursday, Aug. 2, 2018, at 10:30 a.m. Brownlee will be only the sixth chief in the department’s nearly 60 years in existence. The swearing-in will take place at the Sonoma County Junior College District (SCJCD) Police Department station at 2032 Armory Drive.
Brownlee has 28 years of public service experience and previously served in the United States Coast Guard, the California Highway Patrol and the SCJCD Police Department where he was police lieutenant for the past 13 years.
Chong said that he has the utmost confidence that Brownlee will continue the tradition of excellence at the college’s police department.
“Robert is an outstanding public safety officer and I am proud to be able to participate in his installation as chief,” Chong said. “I know that his dedication to SRJC, his strong moral compass, and his friendly demeanor make him the leader that SRJC needs in its police department.”
SCJCD Police Department
The SCJCD Police Department was started in 1959 under the leadership of Stanley Anderson. Anderson created the Administration of Justice Department at SRJC and the school's student police cadet program, which eventually became a California Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) accredited agency in 1989.
The college’s police officers are empowered with full peace officer status, can make felony and misdemeanor arrests, investigate crimes, and enforce traffic laws. All SCJCD police officers have law enforcement authority throughout the state. Each officer graduated from a regional police academy and receives training throughout the year. The District Police Department has state accredited law enforcement dispatchers and community service officers (CSOs) who serve the community and support the mission of the department.
