SRJC Roseland Hosts Welcome Day September 16

SRJC Faculty & Staff at Welcome Day 2022en español

August 24, 2023, Santa Rosa, CA —While fall semester classes are now underway at Santa Rosa Junior College (SRJC), there are still opportunities to enroll in late-starting classes, or to learn about financial aid and other student services to prepare for next semester. Attendees at SRJC Roseland’s Welcome Day on Saturday, September 16 from 9:30 am to 1 pm will enjoy free appetizers, music, and have the opportunity to participate in a raffle.

Dr. Angelica Garcia, who took over as the college’s president in July, adds, “SRJC Roseland's Welcome Day is a family-friendly day full of access to resources, programs, and the faculty, classified professionals, and administrators that work together to serve the Roseland community. My family and I look forward to spending time with the community, especially in the pursuit of higher education.”

Bilingual (English/Spanish) informational workshops will be conducted to inform new and returning students about class offerings and the many student services available at Roseland and the other SRJC instructional sites. Welcome Day events are a time to find community, have fun, and meet SRJC staff and students. Attendees can also visit Resource Fair tables to get information on the many student success resources available through the College and its partners. Staff will be available to help students take care of last-minute business, including financial aid applications or learning about tutoring, technology loans, food assistance, or career coaching, among many other available services.

SRJC has offered classes in the Roseland area since the 1980s, first leasing the ten-classroom site on South Wright Road in 2009 and quickly growing to serve over 7,000 students annually. Classes at the site include Non-Credit English as Second Language (ESL), College Skills, Older Adults, Community Education, Electronic Technology, and Computer Literacy classes. Student support services such as food distribution, student health services and remote assistance with online admissions, class registration, and academic counseling are also offered.

Designated as a Hispanic Serving Institute with at least 25% of the credit student body identifying as Latinx, the college has twice received Title V HSI grants, providing federal funding to increase educational access, academic preparedness and college readiness, improve success through higher course completion and success rates, and promote increased transfers, degrees, and/or certificate completion among Latinx and low-income students.

Affirming its long-term commitment to the community, the 9.5-acre property was purchased by the college in 2022. Earlier this year, the site was renamed SRJC Roseland shortly before groundbreaking on a $16 million modernization and sustainability project. The renovations will provide new administrative, student services and classroom facilities, modernize existing classrooms, add computer labs, expand available parking, and add two quads for student activities and community events. These investments are made possible by the Measure H funding approved by voters in 2014, and will support education, workforce training, and personal enrichment for the community for decades to come.

Event parking is free.

SRJC Roseland is located at 950 S. Wright Road in Santa Rosa, just south of Highway 12.

This year’s Welcome Day collaborators include Student Life, Equity & Engagement, Welcome & Connect Center, Student Outreach, Petaluma Student Engagement and Success, Marketing & Communications, SRJC Roseland, and the Student Government Assembly.
