May 25, 2021, Petaluma, CA — The Santa Rosa Junior College (SRJC) Friends of Petaluma Campus Trust (FPCT) invites the community to its virtual fundraising event, Building Futures, on Thursday, June 3 from 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm. All funds raised by this event will go directly to support SRJC Petaluma student support programs and sciences. More than 250 business, education, nonprofit, and community leaders are expected to attend. The event will be held in place of the annual Building Community Breakfast and will take place online at the website BuildingFutures.us.
The event celebrates SRJC Petaluma, now in its 27th year at its beautiful Sonoma Mountain Parkway site, located in Petaluma’s “College District.” This year’s emcee is Ken Wayne, newscaster from KRON 4, who will host a variety of discussions with faculty and students about their successes and how the new science and student support facilities, paid for by Measure H, will affect their education.
FPCT Chairperson Lori Enochs of Torkelson and Associates said that SRJC is honored to have Wayne host the online event. “The SRJC Friends of Petaluma Campus Trust is honored to have Ken Wayne, an award-winning journalist, host…Ken donates much of his time for local causes and we are grateful to have him be a big part of our event. His engaging manner and thoughtful interviews will provide the story of one of Petaluma’s greatest resources, Petaluma SRJC.”
The event will begin with opening remarks by SRJC President Dr. Frank Chong. Dr. Matthew Long, and Regina Guerra, deans of the Petaluma campus, will also unveil the new facilities that have been constructed while the college has been largely shut down due to COVID.
Ken Wayne will also conduct interviews with:
- Michelle Hughes Markovics, SRJC Petaluma’s Anthropology instructor, and two students involved in the program;
- Students who will occupy the new chemistry classroom and are completing their STEM requirements on the campus; and
- Students who serve as success coaches, providing critical support for students while in remote instruction.
Silver Sponsors for this year’s event include Clover Sonoma, Exchange Bank, JL Construction, Lace House Linen Supply, Inc., Mahoney Davison Co. Property Management, and Torkelson & Associates, LLP, Certified Public Accountants.
The event is an opportunity for attendees to explore the impact of SRJC Petaluma on the surrounding community. It also provides the chance for those unfamiliar with the campus to receive a virtual tour of this amazing 40-acre campus. Tickets are free and registration is available at BuildingFutures.us. Participants can also purchase a cocktail package from Seared Steak and Seafood in Petaluma at that website.
