August 3, 2023, Santa Rosa, CA —With fall semester classes beginning on August 14, Santa Rosa Junior College (SRJC) kicks off the fall semester with the annual Welcome Day event on Saturday, August 12, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., simultaneously, at the Santa Rosa and Petaluma Campuses. All SRJC students and staff are invited. August 12 is also move-in day for the newly built Polly O’Meara Doyle Hall student housing facility on Armory Drive at Elliott Avenue as well as an Open House at Shone Farm.
The Santa Rosa campus will offer guided tours of campus at 11 a.m., 1 p.m., 2 p.m., and 3 p.m. Student services offices will be open for helping students take care of last-minute business, including financial aid application assistance. Free lunch will be served in Bertolini Quad from 1:30 p.m., while it lasts.
The Petaluma campus will have Admissions & Records staff and academic counselors available for students. Students can get help with activating Cubcard Virtual IDs, and those who sign up for a technology loan can pick up their equipment at Welcome Day. Lunch will be served at noon on the outdoor patio, with an opportunity to meet the new college president, Dr. Angélica Garcia. The afternoon program will include student services booths, introductions to campus deans, and workshops covering topics such as how to succeed in Math and English, how to build a support network at school, what parents need to know to support their student, and a session devoted to adults returning to school after a lengthy time away.
The Shone Farm open house will take place on August 12, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m, celebrating new classroom buildings which have allowed all agricultural and natural resource instruction to be moved to the Farm. The event will include farm and flower stands (cash preferred), wine tastings, and tours of the facilities and gardens.
Welcome Day at SRJC Roseland on Saturday will take place on September 16, from 9:30-1:00pm.
Other Welcome Week events include The Latinx Faculty & Staff Association’s virtual welcome event on August 16, 6 to 8 p.m. on Zoom, and a Welcome to International Students on Friday, August 18, 12 to 2 p.m.
The Welcome Day events are a time to find community, have fun, and meet SRJC staff and students. Attendees can also visit Resource Fair tables to get information on the many student success resources available through the College and its partners.
