SRJC Foundation Hosts 25th Annual President's Address to the Community

May 5, 2017, Santa Rosa, CA — On Thursday, June 1, 2017, Santa Rosa Junior College (SRJC) superintendent/president Dr. Frank Chong will speak at the 25th Annual President’s Address to the Community to donors, alumni, business leaders and the larger community served by the College. The program will feature a “State of the College” address including updates on Measure H projects, celebration planning for the 100th Anniversary, and progress toward the goal of the SRJC 100th Anniversary Campaign. The event will take place at 11:00 a.m. in Walter Haehl Pavilion on SRJC’s Santa Rosa campus.

This year, Dr. Chong is proud to recognize Suzy and Mike Marzalek with the 2017 President’s Medallion of Honor. The President’s Medallion is awarded in recognition of outstanding service and other contributions that have profoundly enhanced the College.

Suzy and Mike first connected with Santa Rosa Junior College in 1995 when their youngest daughter was enrolled as a student. With their daughter now enjoying a successful career, Suzy and Mike acknowledge and are grateful for SRJC’s impact on her life. They said, “When we thought about how important SRJC was to our own family, we knew we wanted to help other students too.” For more than two decades, Suzy and Mike have contributed their time, talents, and financial support to help numerous other SRJC students succeed.

As the first person in his family to attend college, Mike also sees himself reflected in many SRJC student stories. As a volunteer in the SRJC Math, Engineering, and Science Achievement Program (MESA), Mike witnessed a student need for greater career knowledge, so he and Suzy partnered with Chop’s Teen Club to develop a comprehensive career information website, JobsMadeReal.com.

Suzy and Mike met while working at Hewlett-Packard (now known as Keysight Technologies) as a financial controller and research and development engineer respectively. Suzy earned a B.A. in Renaissance and Reformation Studies from Scripps College and a CPA at Deloitte Touche LLP. Mike earned a B.A. in Engineering from UC Berkley and an M.S. in Engineering from Stanford University.

Suzy’s community service includes work with the United Way Wine Country, the YWCA, Health Action, Redwood Empire Food Bank, the Santa Rosa Community Health Centers, and Impact 100 Redwood Circle. Using himself as a “guinea pig,” Mike is engaged in cochlear implant bioengineering research in collaboration with UC San Francisco.

Individual tickets are $50 and must be purchased in advance. Sponsorships are also available. To register, please visit http://santarosajc.ejoinme.org/2017presidentsaddress.
