Faculty Reed Martin Awarded for Outstanding Talent and Dedication to the Works of Shakespeare

Reed Martin HeadshotJanuary 22, 2025, Santa Rosa - Reed Martin, Theatre Arts faculty member at Santa Rosa Junior College (SRJC) and long time Artistic Director of the Reduced Shakespeare Company (RSC), has been awarded the prestigious 2025 Sandra & Sidney Berger Award from the Shakespeare Theatre Association, along with his partner in the company, Austin Tichenor. The recognition is presented annually to an Artistic Director in recognition of their outstanding talent and dedication to the works of William Shakespeare and was awarded at this year's STA Annual Conference in San Francisco.

Reed Martin has been with the Reduced Shakespeare Company since 1989, helping to shape the innovative three-person touring comedy troupe into an internationally acclaimed ensemble. Under his co-leadership, the company has performed its original productions worldwide, including at The White House, Off-Broadway theaters, and London's West End.

Beyond his work with RSC, Martin has made significant contributions to theatre education as a faculty member at Santa Rosa Junior College since 2007, where his impact has been recognized with the Academic Senate's Award for Outstanding Contributions in Professional Achievement. His dedication to student wellbeing earned him recognition as a health and wellness champion from the Student Health PEERS at SRJC in 2022.

SRJC Theatre Arts fans can currently experience Martin's directing work in SRJC's production of "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee," running February 28 - March 9 in Burbank Auditorium, on the Santa Rosa campus.
