Dear SRJC Community,
During a class in the Lindley Center for STEM Education this evening, a mercury vapor spectrum tube was broken. Emergency protocols were immediately activated, including shutting down the HVAC system and gas to the area and evacuating the building. District Police, Facilities Operations, and Risk Management responded, and the Santa Rosa Fire Department was called to assist.
The amount of mercury involved was below the threshold requiring specialized disposal, and the mercury was safely disposed of with the assistance of the Santa Rosa Fire Department.
Classes will resume as scheduled on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, in Lindley Center for STEM Education.
I want to recognize our SRJC teams and the Santa Rosa Fire Department for their prompt response, careful assessment, and work to resolve the situation.
In community,
Dr. Garcia
