Banner Update: October 2, 2026

October 2, 2026
Dear SRJC Community,

As we close our second sprint, I want to provide another update on the work underway to address the highest-priority Banner issues affecting our students and employees. Our teams continue to work closely with Ellucian and our implementation partners, with work moving through remediation, testing, and validation. More than half of the items in our shared log are now closed and validated by SRJC, and 15 additional items are currently with our teams for final confirmation. Nothing is considered complete until SRJC has tested and validated the work.

The updates below reflect the progress made over the past two weeks, along with the work ahead.

1. Financial Aid

Financial aid remains a major focus because of the direct impact these issues have on students. Eligibility is calculating correctly for students affected by COVID-era excused withdrawals, Pell funds are current, and California College Promise Grant fee waivers are no longer dropping off. The aid data load has also been corrected and is running significantly faster. Next, teams are validating corrections related to renewal grades, repeat coursework, and transfer credits, along with continued work on the scholarship application and awarding.

2. Enrollment

Several key enrollment issues have been resolved or moved into final validation. The placement pipeline has been repaired, clearing approximately 26,000 queued records, and transcript data has been cleaned. Corrections to drop and refund deadlines across all course sections remain in place. Upcoming work includes catalog data, transcript generation, CCCApply placement data, and additional counseling tools.

3. Spring Registration

Work continues on the functionality students will need for Spring 2027 registration. Priority registration rules are targeted for completion soon, with educational plans, prerequisite validation, and waitlist notifications among the next areas of work. We are also continuing to investigate an increase in students appearing on the prerequisite drop report and will provide an update once the analysis confirms the cause. TimeKeeper is live, and enhancements to automatic class registration are approximately 85 percent complete.

4. Integrations

A number of important integrations that connect Banner to other systems are now functioning correctly or have moved substantially closer to completion, including Medicat for student health information, Symplicity Accommodate for DSPS scheduling information, and Rave Alert for automatic emergency notification updates. Summer enrollment and degree files have also been submitted to the National Student Clearinghouse. Remaining work includes BankMobile automation, Escape to Banner, Degree Works, and additional testing-environment procedures.

5. User Experience and Accessibility

We continue to hear from students and employees about the number of steps required to complete common tasks in Self Service. The screens students and staff currently use will remain in place during this phase while we address the underlying functionality and prepare broader user experience improvements for Spring 2027. That work will include a clearer view of each student’s academic progress and the next actions they need to take.

Accessibility is an important part of this work. Ellucian is making a series of accessibility improvements to Registration Self Service, with releases planned over the coming months. The improvements are being built to WCAG 2.2 AA standards. The first accessibility release is planned for October and will include improvements to Prepare for Registration, Browse Classes, and Browse Course Catalog. A second release is planned for December and will include Plan Ahead and Register for Classes. SRJC will continue to address additional accessibility items as the work moves into Spring 2027.

As a reminder, previous Banner updates from me are found online, and more detailed transition updates are sent out by Vice President Robert Holcomb and Vice President Molly Senecal each week and are found online as well.

I want to reinforce that every issue raised remains visible and is being addressed as capacity allows. Our teams are continuing to work through the issues that most impact students while also identifying and investigating new issues as they arise. The progress over the past two weeks is meaningful, and I appreciate the work of our SRJC team and Ellucian partners.
