Summary of Town Hall Themes

May 4. 2026
Dear SRJC Community,

Thank you to everyone who participated in the Town Halls last week. Whether you spoke, submitted written feedback, or joined simply to listen, your engagement matters and is deeply appreciated. These sessions were intended as a starting point to gather input and begin a broader conversation about how we move forward together.

Across the two town halls, we had strong participation both in person and via Zoom, with over 250 attendees, along with a significant number of written responses submitted through the online form. This level of engagement reflects a shared commitment to our students and to the future of Santa Rosa Junior College. I also want to acknowledge that questions themselves are valuable input as they help us understand where clarity and information are still needed.

Key Themes

While the conversations were wide-ranging, several consistent themes emerged from the Town Halls:

  1. Collaboration Requires Structure and Visibility
There is a strong desire to work more collaboratively across departments and sites. While examples of effective collaboration exist, many shared that these efforts are not consistent or well-supported across SRJC. Improving communication, increasing awareness of available resources and programs, and creating intentional opportunities for collaboration were identified as key opportunities.

  2. Administrative Processes Need to Be Streamlined
Many of you raised concerns about duplicative and time-intensive administrative processes, including PAFs, approvals, and workflows. There is clear interest in modernizing and simplifying these systems to reduce workload and improve efficiency. At the same time, there was thoughtful discussion about ensuring that efforts to reduce duplication do not unintentionally limit access or equity for students.

  3. Significant Challenges Must Be Addressed Thoughtfully
You highlighted real challenges, including increased workload, particularly with the implementation of Banner, budget constraints, and concerns about maintaining access, quality, and equity for our students. We also heard concerns about morale, communication, and the importance of building trust as we move through this process.

  4. Transparency, Clarity, and Ongoing Engagement Are Essential
A consistent message was the need for clearer information, shared definitions, and more meaningful opportunities for engagement. Many expressed a desire to better understand the data informing decisions, including our financial picture and enrollment trends, and to be involved in conversations in a more ongoing and collaborative way.

What’s Next

This is the beginning of an ongoing process. Over the coming weeks:

  • Vice Presidents will be holding component area meetings to continue these discussions in more focused settings.
  • We will continue to analyze both feedback and data to identify opportunities and priorities.
  • Please continue to submit input through the online form
  • Recordings from the Town Hall are available on the reorg website

Our goal is to move forward in a way that is thoughtful, transparent, and grounded in both data and the lived experiences of our employees and students. We are working toward a shared outcome: ensuring the long-term fiscal sustainability of Santa Rosa Junior College while remaining true to our mission in support of students. That work is complex, and it requires all of us.

Thank you again for your time, your honesty, and your continued commitment to our students and our community.
