Call for Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) Task Force Participation

August 20, 2024

Dear Colleagues,

At the Fall PDA Day plenary, I announced a call for participation in a Districtwide Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) Task Force, in response to the Academic Senate’s recommendation to create this advisory group, which was approved by the College Council in Spring 2025.

The GenAI Task Force is a District advisory group engaging in a year-long assessment of the evolving role of GenAI in learning, student services, operations, and institutional decision-making at Santa Rosa Junior College.

The task force will:

  1. Review and become familiar with the Academic Senate’s recommendations, including those of its task force, as well as the history of related discussions, actions, and positions.
  2. Research current applications, trends, and innovations in GenAI across higher education, including an overview of the current state of GenAI use at SRJC.
  3. Identify the implications of GenAI technologies for operational efficiencies, equity, accessibility, privacy, and professional ethics.
  4. Assess recommended best practices and consistent standards relating to Academic Integrity, as presented by members of the Educational Planning and Coordinating Committee (EPCC).
  5. Assess recommended best practices and consistent standards relating to the Student Experience specific to their accessing program and support services.
  6. Provide district-wide guidance and best practices for the integration of GenAI in:
    1. Instruction and curriculum design
    2. Student services and support
    3. Administrative and operational processes
  7. Identify professional development needs for faculty, classified professionals, and administrators to ensure responsible and informed GenAI use.
  8. Recommend policies and systems that will guide how generative GenAI is used at SRJC that align with SRJC’s mission, values, and strategic initiatives.
  9. Facilitate inclusive dialogue and solicit input from diverse groups across all sites.
  10. Deliver a final report with actionable recommendations to the College Council.

One member will be appointed from each SRJC constituency group, including Academic Senate, Classified Senate, AFA, SEIU, CFT, and administrators. The Student Government Assembly will appoint up to four students using its own process. In addition, I am opening the call for participation to ensure representation in the following areas identified as key for engagement and collaboration:

  • Academic Affairs
  • IDEAA Task Force
  • Curriculum
  • Writing Intensive Course faculty
  • Computer Science AI faculty
  • Disability Resources Department - Access Technology Specialist
  • Distance Education
  • Information Technology

Membership may be further refined as the task force is underway. Membership can be composed of students, classified professionals, contract faculty, associate faculty, and administrators.  Resource support for the task force will be provided as requested, including support from our Vice Presidents.

The meeting schedule will be 9:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. on the fourth Friday of the month. One Friday in the Fall and Spring will be a retreat.  The timeline for this task force’s work is through May 2026.
