Dear SRJC Community,
I am writing to provide a brief update on recent developments related to federal education funding. Many of you may have seen reports indicating that federal funds are being withheld from educational institutions.
While the U.S. Department of Education has since indicated that the funds will be released, a notice issued on July 10 included a clarification that limits the use of these funds to “U.S. citizens, residents, and certain eligible nonresidents.”
We recognize that this shifting guidance creates uncertainty and fear, especially for undocumented students, the employees who support these programs, and the communities who rely on them for access to education and opportunity. Our leadership team is actively reviewing the guidance to fully understand its impact and to explore how we can remain compliant while continuing to support undocumented students to the fullest extent possible. We continue to remain vigilant to the ever-changing landscape.
SRJC remains committed to prioritizing student success and upholding our vision to provide an accessible, open, barrier-free, and sustainable environment for students, employees, and the broader community.
We are also closely monitoring all the news surrounding the Department of Education and will continue to provide updates as the situation evolves. In the meantime, thank you for standing in solidarity with our community and for your continued focus on supporting our mission, vision, and values.
In Community,
Dr. Angélica Garcia, Ed.D.
