June 16, 2022, Santa Rosa, CA —Santa Rosa Junior College’s (SRJC) Kinesiology, Athletics & Dance (KAD) Department, in partnership with SRJC’s Board of Trustees and the SRJC Foundation Board of Directors, are inviting the public to attend their Ribbon Cutting and Pool Dedication Ceremony. The free event showcasing the Olympic-sized swimming pool will take place on Thursday, June 23 from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. at the Quinn Swim Center on the Santa Rosa Campus, 1501 Mendocino Avenue.
The festivities will begin with an opportunity to explore the facility, meet members of the community and enjoy snacks and refreshments from 4:00 - 4:45 p.m.
"We expect a large turnout for this event," said Jill McCormick, SRJC’s Head Swim Coach and one of the event’s planners. "SRJC and Bear Cub Athletics are thrilled to bring this state-of-the-art facility online and our surrounding community is excited to celebrate equitable access to this pool. They will turn out in full force to celebrate the launching of a new era for Santa Rosa aquatics."
The Dedication Ceremony will include speeches from SRJC President/Superintendent Dr. Frank Chong, Head Swim Coach Jill McCormick, Foundation Executive Director J Mullineaux and more. The keynote speaker is SRJC Alumnus Dr. David Salo. He is a swimmer and former Head Coach for USC and Assistant Coach for several Olympic swim teams. Dr. Salo is the owner and general manager of Irvine Novaquatics Swim Club.
The Ribbon Cutting will follow the Dedication Ceremony.
KAD Athletics will then open all of the new Measure H facilities including the softball, baseball, soccer, and football fields, the track and the gym so that guests may tour and talk to the coaches and student athletes.
The pool will not be open for public swimming at this event.
