November 8, 2024
Dear SRJC Community,
As we approach the weekend, I want to remind you that all Santa Rosa Junior College (SRJC) sites will be closed on Monday, November 11, in observance of Veterans Day.
More importantly, I want to take a moment to honor and express deep gratitude to the veterans in our SRJC community. Your service and sacrifices have been instrumental in safeguarding the freedoms we cherish, and your presence enriches our campus community in countless ways. Last spring, my daughter had the privilege to participate in the 8th grade trip to Washington, DC., where they visited museums, monuments, and national landmarks. Among those experiences, she shared that visiting Arlington National Cemetery, and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier deeply impacted her. It reminded her of family members who served in wars, protested wars, and how she will be eligible to vote and serve in the next presidential election.
This year, as our nation engages in the democratic process with the recent elections, we are reminded of the fundamental rights and liberties that our veterans have bravely defended. Your commitment ensures that we can participate in shaping our country's future, and for that, we are profoundly thankful.
SRJC is proud to support veterans – students, faculty, staff, and alumni – whose skills, leadership and experiences contribute to the strength of our community. Veterans Day serves as a reminder of the courage and dedication of our service members, as well as the importance of supporting their transition to civilian life. We are committed to ensuring veterans feel welcome and valued on our campus, with access to resources and programs they need to succeed. From educational opportunities to counseling and career services, we are committed to empowering veterans and honoring their service through action. We are thankful you have chosen SRJC as part of your journey beyond your military career. I encourage you, and all veterans, to utilize the services available through SRJC’s Veteran’s Success Center, located in Plover Hall, room 516.
I am grateful for the opportunity to be a part of this community and for the environment we are creating to ensure that we can all experience the freedom to learn and transform our lives. This Veterans Day, let us honor the legacy of service of our veterans and work together to continue building a supportive, inclusive, and respectful environment for all.
Thank you to all who have served, and to the families who have supported them. Your sacrifices do not go unnoticed, and your contributions make our community stronger every day.
In community,
Dr. Garcia
