Dear SRJC Community,
I shared these comments earlier at tonight’s October Board of Trustees meeting as part of my President’s Report and want to ensure you have access to the resources listed below.
As you are likely aware, the Middle East has experienced horrific acts of violence and devastating natural disasters recently leading to great loss of life. My heart is with everyone who is mourning the loss of loved ones in the region.
Many in the SRJC community have connections to this region of the world, whether through family, friends, culture, or religion and are deeply affected and experiencing immense pain and anxiety. SRJC stands ready to support all our students and colleagues who are feeling the impact of these events. Our International Student Program has also reached out to our F-1 visa students from the Middle East to offer mental health and academic support.
Please make a note of the following resources and share them with your communities.
- For individuals experiencing a mental health crisis and needing to communicate with someone, please dial or text 988 to speak with a crisis counselor in English or Spanish for free. For emergencies, call District Police at 707-527-1000.
- Student Psychological Service therapists are available throughout the day for students. For an appointment, call 707-527-4445 or email studenthealthservices@santarosa.edu. Students can also drop in for an appointment on the Santa Rosa Campus in Bertolini on the third Floor.
- Employees can also utilize the Employee Assistance Program by entering “SISC” as the company name.
I urge us to come together with kindness and empathy towards those in the SRJC community who are grieving or experiencing emotional and mental distress. We are here to support you and I want you to know you are safe at our college.
In community,
Dr. Garcia
