February 3, 2022, Santa Rosa, CA – On Monday, February 28 through Thursday, March 3, the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges/Western Association of Schools and Colleges (ACCJC/WASC) will conduct a virtual, comprehensive peer review of Santa Rosa Junior College (SRJC) as part of the standard process for reviewing and renewing college accreditation.

Every seven years, institutions recognized by the ACCJC/WASC agree to a comprehensive review to determine they meet the commission's standards. The review process confirms that schools are engaged in sustainable efforts to improve educational quality and institutional effectiveness. It begins with the institution conducting a self-evaluation using ACCJC's standards. The outcome is communicated in an Institutional Self-Evaluation Report (ISER), which is submitted to ACCJC for peer review. In addition to the evidence-supported evaluation, the ISER also describes the institution's plans for improvement and contains a Quality Focus Essay (QFE) that discusses projects the institution will engage in to improve student learning and achievement.

Santa Rosa Junior College began its self-review process in spring 2020. With the support and assistance of accreditation faculty co-chair, Jessica Russell, and contributions from more than 150 faculty, classified professionals, students and administrators, the college completed the review process and submitted the ISER to ACCJC in December 2021.

“For two years now, SRJC has been engaged in the process to reaffirm its accreditation,” said Vice President of Academic Affairs/Assistant Superintendent, Dr. Jane Saldaña-Talley, who serves as SRJC’s Accreditation Liaison Officer. “As always, it has offered us an excellent opportunity to review SRJC's programs and operations, reflect on where we can improve our effectiveness in meeting our own mission, and self-identify plans for improvement. We are proud of our 104-year-old institution and look forward to sharing who we are with our peer review visitors during our first-ever virtual site visit.”

An external peer review team will examine Santa Rosa Junior College's ISER and conduct their virtual site visit from February 28 to March 3, 2022. Peers selected for their expertise from member institutions will write a team report stating their findings related to the college's compliance with ACCJC's Standards.  The report will be submitted to ACCJC for action during the Commission’s June 30, 2022 meeting.

ACCJC will also conduct a Special Fiscal Monitoring site visit during that time.
