April 28, 2017, Santa Rosa, CA — “Looking Beyond,” this year’s Santa Rosa Junior College (SRJC) spring dance performance, showcases new dance works from New York Broadway choreographer Dylan Smith, Afro-Congolese artist Pierre Sandor Diabankouezi, Auxiliary (hip-hop company), SRJC faculty, and new student choreographers. Genres of dance will include modern, hip-hop, contemporary, ballet, jazz, Polynesian, and African dance. The show will be presented in Burbank Auditorium on SRJC’s Santa Rosa campus. Evening performances will be held May 12-13 at 8 pm, and afternoon performances will be held May 13-14 at 2 pm. Tickets are $15 for general admission and $12 for students and seniors.

This year’s dance show comes with the introduction of new co-directors Casandra Hillman and Tanya Tolmasoff. The announcement comes following the retirement of dance instructors Susan Matthies, Lara Branen and Debbie Ann Medina who helped direct SRJC’s annual show for nearly 20 years (influencing generations of dancers). The SRJC dance production class is designed to build a high level of student artistry, technique, and performance art. Both Hillman and Tolmasoff share, “It is a true honor to be part of the legacy of SRJC Dance.”

Tanya Tolmasoff holds a master’s degree from Goldsmiths, University of London, and a bachelor’s degree from California Polytechnic State University. In addition to teaching dance at SRJC and the ArtQuest Dance program at Santa Rosa High School, Tolmasoff also serves as the artistic director of UPside Dance Company. She has also choreographed, performed, and taught throughout California, New York City, London, and Russia.

“Looking Beyond” is presented by the SRJC Theatre Arts Department, in collaboration with the Kinesiology, Dance, and Athletics Department.
