March 27, 2018 – Summer Repertory Theatre (SRT) on hold due to Burbank remodel

March 27, 2018 – Summer Repertory Theatre (SRT), hosted by Santa Rosa Junior College (SRJC) for 47 consecutive summers, is on hiatus for the first time during summer, 2018, due to a complete remodel of the Luther Burbank Auditorium. Thanks to the support of Sonoma County voters who passed Measure H in 2014, Burbank Auditorium’s extensive remodel has been long awaited, since the building is over 75 years old, but this has caused some logistical challenges for SRT.

SRJC staff scoured Sonoma County for a suitable alternative but were unable to find a theatre where they could produce the type of shows they are known for. SRT prides itself on fully produced, Broadway-style plays and musicals.

SRJC administrators decided to take a hiatus this summer and focus energies on launching the new Burbank Auditorium in the 2019 season. “While it is painful for SRT to be dark for the first summer in 47 years, we know that our loyal patrons will support this decision,” said SRT Director James Newman. “We hope they, like we, will look forward to seeing amazing plays and musicals in the fully modernized new Burbank Auditorium.” Newman is enthusiastic about 2019. “We plan to pull out all the stops for the inaugural season of our renovated home,” he said.
