Are you ready to practice a ShakeOut?
On October 17, SRJC will test its emergency alert systems by holding an earthquake alert test for all employees and students at each of our five campus and center locations as part of International Shakeout Day. We invite you to participate, if you are able and available.
When?
The drill will be held on Thursday, October 17th at 10:47 am.
Where?
The SRJC Alert system testing and earthquake drills will be held at the same time and date at all five campus and center locations including Petaluma, Public Safety Training Center, Santa Rosa, Shone Farm, and Roseland.
How will the test and drill work?
The test will provide an opportunity for a DROP, COVER & HOLD ON drill and will take approximately five minutes to complete. The test will not require an evacuation, but we encourage you to use this time to familiarize yourselves with the evacuation route. Emergency Alert Notifications will go out through text and email systems.
- Emergency text & email messaging for all students and employees Districtwide will be sent once on 10/17/24 at 10:47 am. No action will be required of you unless your class/dept is participating in a drill. A second text/email will be sent approximately 5 minutes after the first alert, indicating any drills conducted are complete.
What should you do during the drill?
Participants should practice “DROP, COVER, HOLD ON”:
- DROP to the ground (before the earthquake drops you!)
- COVER your head and neck with your arms and seek additional shelter by getting under a sturdy desk or table if nearby; and
- HOLD ON to your shelter and be prepared to move with it until the shaking stops.
Immediately after the initial shaking stops, evacuation is recommended.

Are you signed up for SRJC Alerts?
Employees’ work email accounts are automatically entered into the alert system. However, due to privacy laws, we require employees to opt-in to receive text alerts on their personal devices. The District recommends employees opt-in to receive SRJC’s emergency text alerts on their personal cell phone numbers through the Escape Employee Online Portal. Opting in will allow the District to provide potentially lifesaving notifications via text in the event of a disaster or emergency should one affect SRJC.
