October 7, 2024, Santa Rosa, CA - Santa Rosa Junior College (SRJC) invites the community to attend a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new Construction Training Center at the SRJC Petaluma campus on October 11, 2024, from 3:00 – 4:30 PM. This state-of-the-art, 10,000-square-foot facility will train a skilled workforce to address Sonoma County's housing shortage and support rebuilding efforts after years of wildfires and floods.
The Construction Training Center supports the growing demand for skilled workers in the construction trades. It embodies SRJC’s commitment to help rebuild the county while creating pathways to living-wage jobs for residents. The Center will offer programs in carpentry, residential HVACR (Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration), fire-resilient landscaping, and water resources technology. These programs will prepare students for in-demand jobs while supporting local efforts to build a more resilient and sustainable future. Through partnership with the North Bay Building Trades Council, we will also build pathways into Union Apprenticeship Programs in the building trades.
SRJC secured funding through a federal disaster grant from the Economic Development Administration (EDA) and major donor support was provided by Tipping Point Foundation, Bank of America, Mendocino Companies, Friedman's Home Improvement, Golden State Lumber & Building Materials, and an anonymous donor. Additional support came from over fifty individuals and businesses.
This event celebrates the collaborative efforts of SRJC, local donors, nonprofit workforce development partners, and the community to create a space that will provide essential housing stock and support local employers by delivering a skilled workforce.
